Getting to Victoria

Getting to Victoria!

British passport holders do not require a visa. You will have to provide evidence of your return flight and may be asked if you have sufficient funds for your trip.

Victoria is on an island - a very big one - about eight hours or so to drive end to end. As such, you can not get a direct flight from London to Victoria.

Victoria does have an airport, and although it is named ‘Victoria International Airport’ (it only receives flights from US cities nearby. You will need to either fly to Vancouver or Seattle in the US (known as ‘SeaTac’ – Seattle/Tacoma) and get a connecting flight from there. If you fly to Vancouver, you will have to clear customs there, collect your luggage, then check it in again for the short (20 min) internal flight to Victoria. If you’re searching for flights on line – the airport code for Victoria is ‘YYJ’ and Vancouver is ‘YVR’. Seattle is ‘SEA’.

You could also take the ferry from Vancouver to Victoria. The trip takes about 90 mins (excluding the time it takes to get from the airport to the ferry terminal) but the scenery is spectacular. You can also get "The Clipper" - a hydrofoil craft from Seattle harbour to downtown Victoria Harbour.

Victoria Airport is about 30mins from the centre of town. There are always taxis in a queue, or you can look here to arrange transport: http://www.victoriaairport.com/index.php?pageid=12

Public transport buses also run to the airport. Please note the buses will not provide change for the fare, you must have the exact amount or be prepared to overpay. Once you’re in town at your hotel, the best way to get around is on foot.
